Gurkha
About This Spot
Stepping into Gurkha on Wilder Road is like entering a softly lit corner where the rhythms of a bustling buffet meet the inviting warmth of an unpretentious neighborhood diner. The space carries a lived-in charm—modest, straightforward, and quietly welcoming—that sets a gentle, unhurried pace. There’s a hum of conversation and subtle clinking of cutlery, the kind of familiar soundtrack that comforts rather than overwhelms.
Here, the mood feels accessible—a balance between comfort and lively curiosity. Whether you’re settling in for a casual dinner or dropping by for a quick bite, the atmosphere invites you to linger just enough, savoring the simple joys of good company and shared plates. It’s not about polished perfection, but rather the genuine moments that unfold when diverse flavors meet on one table.
The menu mirrors this spirit, offering a curious mix where Chinese and Indian culinary influences blend into an everyday feast. Plates arrive steaming—like fragrant egg fried rice that pairs effortlessly with the slightly crisp bite of onion bhaji chips, or tender chunks coated in a rich black bean sauce alongside bursts of fresh vegetables. There’s a joyful variety in the offerings that encourages trying a little bit of everything, making each visit a small adventure in flavor.
Gurkha’s team, often balancing the busy flow with attentive kindness, contributes to the experience in thoughtful, understated ways. Their openness adds to the welcoming feeling, reminding you that this is a local spot built around connection more than formality. Accessibility is part of the story too, with practical touches ensuring all visitors feel at ease.
Ultimately, Gurkha is a quietly endearing destination for those who appreciate honest, homey food served at a thoughtful pace—a place where the atmosphere feels more like visiting a familiar friend’s table than dining out. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most comforting meals come wrapped in simplicity and shared smiles.

Food was excellent. Extremely good for the balue of money. Great mix of Indian and Chinese. Staff were very friendly too. It has wheelchair access and a good sized disabled toilet. We were able to park on the street tight outside. £12.95 all you can eat for an adult. I think kids around half of that.

We were unsure and almost left due to the reviews but the staff were kind, about 3 minutes after opening a couple families came in, ceiling was NOT falling down and no we did not get salmonella or threw up, food was good, new fresh food came out quickly, the chips are nice, I reccomend the sweet and sour chicken, everything was ok and food looked lovely, anyone seeing this may think I'm overely nice but I loved it. Not the biggest selection but considering there isn't any all you can eats near ilfracombe it was good. The price was pretty good AND WE DID NOT PAY 37 pound for one drink, these other reviews are crazy, I'm being a bit nice but honest. It was good and I WOULD go again.

Food was great, me and my brother loved the sweet and sour chicken and the beef in black bean sauce I think it was, bad reviews are misleading, waitress was kind and was quick to bring our drinks and take our drink order. The roof is not “mouldy” or “falling down” it’s merely just water leaks. It’s quite a pleasant atmosphere, fresh food comes out every few minutes and okay selection, there’s ice cream and cake and stuff for after! It’s a nice place and I totally recommend, we did not get sick or get salmonella like it said in one review. It was overall pretty good and enjoyed it! Would go again, and no you don’t pay £37 for a drink. Bad reviews outrageously incorrect. Recommend the chips and beef! And sweet and sour chicken!

The waitress on arriving was rather impatient and quick to dismiss me back to my seat when I wanted to order a drink, I was then allowed back up later to order and it was fine. I guess maybe they were busy, but it was slightly rude. Bit of a small place for a buffet and kind of dated, but the food was delicious, not a massive menu, maybe around 20 different items to choose from, but I wasn't disappointed, extremely tasty and just what was needed after a long day of fishing.
